Georgetown Pike winds west toward Great Falls as a two-lane scenic byway, and the GW Parkway runs along the Potomac bluffs to the east. Chain Bridge itself is the shortcut into northwest Washington, and it is also a bottleneck that can undo a schedule in the morning.

When the parkway is slow we weigh Route 123 to I-66 against Chain Bridge and Canal Road; when the Beltway ramps at Tysons are jammed we stay on local streets.
